Didn't you know bro I'm a commander
Didn't you know bro I'm not your mama
I don't wear a kanga I carry a machete
No i'm not your mum
You didn't know no
But I'm a commander
And yup I catch the money
From london to langata
Watch them gawk
You don't even have credit on your phone
Don't worry I send you some
Didn't you know bro I'm a commander
Didn't you know bro I'm not your mama
I don't wear a kanga I carry a machete
Your face drier than the savannah
No worries i'm here to roast you like a cassava
And yea I know you can't shut up
But it dont matter cos thats what I'm counting on
Tell em I'm on on a bus to malaba
Looking sweg in slides
I know I rock your world
Yeah I got your number
Yeah I got your number
Yeah I know I rock your world
Didn't you know bro I'm a commander
Didn't you know bro I'm not your mama
I don't wear a kanga I carry a machete
No i'm not your mum
You didn't know no
But I'm a commander
And yup I catch the money
From london to langata

about
I hit up Nah Eeto because I really liked what I had been hearing. I was happy she picked this beat because it was quite bugged out and I thought it fit nicely. I warped the vocals a lot with some hardware, tried to bug it out more. It's a bit marching band, with early 80s chorus bass guitar. She's talking in Swahili about being a commander, a boss. Not your mama.
I approached a few people to do remixes, but none of them happened so I just did one myself. It's kind of electro, but comprised of tiny bits of an Indian record from the 70s, with some horror film chords thrown in. More for the dance floor this one.
This is the first single from my forthcoming album, Connection, which has been a long time coming. I hope you dig it. Stay tuned for more.
These three songs from JV & Palf deliver jittery, hyperactive dance music with split-second vocal samples an bass-heavy beats. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 4, 2018
